About us

The Rural Young Democrats of Southwest Virginia is the home for young Democrats in one of the most beautiful and hardworking regions of the Commonwealth.

We are students, workers, parents, educators, and organizers who believe that Democratic values — fairness, opportunity, dignity, and justice — are rural values too.

Too often, rural communities are overlooked by party politics. We are changing that by building a sustainable, year-round organizing operation in Southwest Virginia. We show up for our neighbors, support local candidates, and advocate for policies that make rural life healthier, more affordable, and more connected.

Whether you have been organizing for years or are just getting started, there is a place for you here.

Why rural Democrats matter

Rural voters are not a monolith, and rural America is not a lost cause. When young organizers invest in rural communities, listen to local concerns, and run authentic candidates, we win. Our work is about rebuilding trust, one conversation at a time.

  • Organizing year-round, not just during election season
  • Recruiting and training young candidates and campaign staff
  • Advocating for broadband, healthcare, jobs, and education
